Wetlands are a powerhouse in vital habitat and carbon storage, they not only create climate resilience but are home to an abundance of biodiversity. With more extreme weather events like flooding and drought, wetlands can provide an anchor to keep an ecosystem healthy and resilient.
Wetlands can be created in a variety of forms, slowing the flow of existing waterways by creating leaky dams, digging bunds and scrapes to retain water. Digging ephemeral ponds using Lidar can be crucial to wildlife.
Carbon storage in a wetland can be up to 12x more than a dry meadow, in the agricultural industry fields have been historically drained to provide more workable land however in the current climate working with natural systems can provide far more value and output to a farm.
If your not already we would love to make you a fan of beavers, they are incredible ecosystem engineers and a indespensible keystone species. Having worked with the Beaver Trust and a beaver program for reintroductions in the UK, we know first hand the importance and impact they can provide.

Hedgerows are hidden treasures in plain sight, they connect different habitats by acting like a nature highway or nature corridor and provide year round food for a plethora of wildlife. The biodiversity in a healthy hedgerow is unlike any other habitat and they are misunderstood by the wider farming community as something that needs to be flailed to a twig often twice a year to look "tidy". Hedges can provide so much to farms when managed properly from, natural pest control, wind breaks, pollination, erosion control, nutrient cycling and water infiltration to name a few. Small steps can make a world of difference.
Hedgelaying is a traditional practice to rejuvenate hedges and maintain their efectiveness and strong growth. We can asses your hedges and create management plans to bolster their value and maintain their diversity for wildlife. Dead hedging is a great by-product of laying as instead of burning or chipping we opt for creating habitat structures that benefit a range of species like fungi and provide shelter and nesting.

Field margins can be an instrumental resource for many species, small mammals which thrive in the tussocks support other populations of struggling wildlife like barn owls and adders which are recovering from record lows to red listed conservation status respectively. So forgoing one bale of hay or preventing topping can make a huge difference. Longer culms surrounding farm land also give landing space for dragonflies which can massively reduce the insect pressure to livestock, they are able to consume 100+ small flies and mosquitos every day.
we work with native breed cattle and pigs to conservation graze and create natural food webs, we can offer a grazier service or organise a local grazier depending on your needs.
